Which virgin are you?

What are you waiting for to start your food storage? At some point, it’s going to be too late. Don’t think you can count on your fellow members of the church to help you out. In the parable of the ten virgins, they all professed to serve the Lord, but only five actually prepared. And when the Bridegroom came back, he did not ask those five to share with the five who had no oil. He esentially said to the five foolish virgins, “too bad.”

And left them out in the dark.
Now is the time to decide which virgin you will be.

According to the Wall Street Journal (as well as prophets, apostles and Relief Society teachers) we need to be stockpiling food:

“Reality: Food prices are already rising here much faster than the returns you are likely to get from keeping your money in a bank or money-market fund. And there are very good reasons to believe prices on the shelves are about to start rising a lot faster. . . . The latest data show cereal prices rising by more than 8% a year. Both flour and rice are up more than 13%. Milk, cheese, bananas and even peanut butter: They’re all up by more than 10%. Eggs have rocketed up 30% in a year. Ground beef prices are up 4.8% and chicken by 5.4%”

So to those of you who are working on my food storage plan, get your canned meat.  I know it’s lame, but you’ll be glad one day.  Promise.  (I also have a friend who has a turkey farm in central Utah.  Due to astronomical grain prices, they will be slaughtering their turkeys this year, and reducing the size of their future flocks by 80%.  As will most of the other people in the business.  Guess what this means for turkey prices? (And I’m assuming chicken prices as well, but I don’t know for sure.) Skyrocketing for sure.  If $10 for four cans of turkey seems high now, just wait until next year.  You’ll be kicking yourselves.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

If you are thinking of joining up with my food storage group, it’s a “3-month-buy-things-your-family-actually-eats” plan. Feel free to buy more if you want/can afford it. The quantities I suggest are minimums. Optimally you should have a whole year supply, but that’s overwhelming and confusing. We’re just doing baby steps here. The idea is to buy a few extra things at the grocery store each week. Forget about the church cannery or even Costco if you don’t go very often. The whole point is to make this easy and doable. Yes, there are ways to make food storage cheaper, but that’s not the point. The point is to get it done on a regular basis, and that means making it convenient and not requiring a lot of thought.

  1. ALRIGHT JENNIE!!!! I am onboard.

    You got me.

I am all about canned meat. I will go and get it today.

How much is this food storage that we are putting together? Is it for one month? One week? One year? Cause 5 cans per person doesn’t seem like a whole lot….

  2. technically i am not a virgin, just wanted to point that small fact out to you.

your program is the only one i’ve ever been able to follow and not get so overwhelmed that i wanted to shave my head ala britney spears. so, muchas gracias.
