I did it. And I’m a little scared.

I wrote the letter to withdraw India from school.  Yes, I got up the guts to pull her out of 7th grade.  After listening to her cry and beg endlessly* to be homeschooled, I decided that I’m up to the task.

Friday is her last day.  I’m a bit nervous, but at least I’ll have a babysitter during the day. Anyone care to join me for a movie at noon?

Just kidding, truant officers!  She’ll be hard at work from sunup to sundown!

*she honestly said, “mom, pleeease can I be homeschooled?  I really want to learn Latin and do a lot more writing and geography.”   She was dead serious.

  1. Wow, I can’t even think of a time where I have heard a kid ask to be home schooled. She must really want to learn some of the skill that you have.

Do you speak Latin? I am interested to hear how she likes your school rules. If that means that you go to movies in the afternoon then I think that you are off to a good start.

  2. Wow…I am impressed! Have you homeschooled any of your children before? I look forward to hearing more about this next adventure. Good Luck!

  3. So what is your plan? Do you have a curriculum? School hours? What are you going to do with the little kids while you teach her? This sounds horribly involved and difficult.

  4. Awesome!! Way to go Jennie! It is a big leap of faith, but after the first couple of weeks, I haven’t looked back.
I use The Well Trained Mind as my guide, it sounds like you probably want a classical curriculum for India, right?
Do you know Julie Smith? She posts on Times and Seasons and lives in Round Rock. She homeschools and also uses The Well Trained Mind.
    I’m so excited for India!

  5. Okay, I have a problem with lurking on sites that I got to from other sites. Here is how I got to yours: I lived next to the Andersonfamilypdx.blogspot.com who is sisters with townhallblog.blogspot.com which is where I found you . I also just found out I am your nephew James Benjamin Davis’s primary teacher so that makes me feel a little less like a weirdo. I just wanted you to know I have been here often and enjoy your blog.

  6. Ha ha! Jeana is here. Cool.

Jennie, you’re going to do awesome and India will love it. I have tons of friends who homeschool and all of them do it in different ways that work for their families.

P.S. The book went out in the mail today.

  7. This post has brought me out of lurker status…..

Good for you!!! And good for India!! I homeschooled one (or more) of my children as needed for several years. My youngest boys are in public high school now and sometimes I miss them being here with me. Home schooling is a challenge. And could not possibly be more inconvenient. But it is also incredibly rewarding. Having read your blog for a while now, I think you will do just fine! (just remember to pray A LOT!)

  8. Good for you! You can do it, you can do it! Sounds like she is motivated and excited–and that’s what learning is supposed to be all about!
    Blessings!
