It’s a bloggy blog world

I’ve been thinking about blogs and friendship the last few days.  Blogs have really opened my life to more/better friendships.  I love having friends.  To me they are truly a joy (most of the time.  Sometimes they are not.  You know who you are.)  I am seriously the most extroverted introvert you will ever meet.

Some blogs are by people I already know.  I love to read their blogs to get to know them better.  A lot of the time I don’t comment because I usually do my blog reading on the treadmill and it’s hard to run and type at the same time. Really hard.

Most blogs that I read are by strangers. They feel like my best friends, though, since I get to witness the details of their lives. I have to keep reminding myself that I probably wouldn’t even recognize them if I walked by them on the street.

Occasionally blog and reality come together and there is communication beyond the screen.  There’s that nervous feeling sorta like when you first start liking a boy.  Come to think of it, it is very similar to liking a boy:

Getting to first base happens when you start commenting on someone’s blog and they start commenting back.

Second base–Moving onto emailing back and forth.

Third base–Talking on the phone (scary!  Will they be as funny in real life?  Will there be chemistry or will it just be awkward with crickets chirping?)

Going all the way–a face to face meeting (Even scarier!  What if they really are a psycho with an elaborately constructed façade of normalcy?)

So here’s to friends, blogs, friends on blogs, and blogs where you just imagine that it’s your friend!  Thanks for all the fun times, laughs and kind words.

  1. I always wondered how other people felt about crossing the stalking/peeking in on blog line, to actually making the comments, or even making more of an effort to really get to know the blogger.

I think that it is really funny that you have the whole system worked out, terminology and all.

And I agree with you that I have found a lot of new friends to which I have no clue if I would recognize them on the street. But I do enjoy the side of their lives that I do get to see and read about.

  2. I think I will attempt to get to first base here 🙂
I just found your blog through Tiburon.
I think I am going to enjoy your writings.
Look forward to many more bases 😉 Thanks for a great post, it made me laugh!

  3. Ok, so now I’m a little weirded out. All this talk of “first base”. I just don’t like equating our friendship with romance. Eeew. Even if I do love you. Call me a homophobic, up-tight religious right nut, but it just feels a bit creepy to put “lovey” terms to the whole blog thing. (I prefer the “peeping tom” lifestyle I currently enjoy)
ps. It gives me butterflies to think you comment on my blog while “treadmilling”. I think, “Now I know she likes me. She REALLY likes me.”

  4. I came across your blog from Tiburon’s ( I want those food storage ideas!). So thought I would go to first base and let you know I am here! P.S. Please do tell how you manage running and reading blogs!?!

  5. I often wonder as I’m walking around Costco, how many of my bloggin buds are here today and we don’t even realize it!

I love the friends I’ve made online. there seems to be an honesty and intimacy, if you will, in these relationships. Even when the posts are all dribble. I have these conversations in my head during the day, on “Jennie would love that.” or “I wonder if Mindi has ever…”. I hope so sand so got that issue resolved and the like.

Maybe that makes me one of the psychos you don’t want to go all the way with;)

  6. Wow…. so you and I went to first base yesterday….

But all I’ve ever done is go to first base with any blogger.

Dang it, not matter how hard I try, I’ll always be the good girl!

  7. Oh- are regarding herlene’s post, I TOTALLY saw a girl whose blog I visit at Sam’s!! And I almost did the whole, “Heyyy, how’s it going?” and she totally would of been, “who are you???” 🙂

  8. Yes, I actually met one of the amazing bloggers that knew my daughter and we started commenting to each other. She was beautiful and fun and such an amazing person—even in real life!

The thing that bothers me is that its hard to keep up the “relationship” after meeting—its like a long distance relationship—you want to be with the person, but can’t and the blogging just doesn’t seem quite as satifactory any more—its sad…

  9. i feel bad that we haven’t moved past first base. i guess i’m playing “hard to get”. too bad you don’t know that i’m really cheap and easy.

  10. Haha! We WE moved very quickly then! Talked on the phone just moments befor hitting homebase! I’ve gotten to second base with a few others, that’s it though!

Well, it was fun losing my blog virginity to you! haha.. ok that sounds weird.
