That big black box is called a T.V.

I’m in Utah for a whirlwind 48 hours; trying to get everything and everyone squeezed in.  I’m all by myself and although I love Mister dearly, nothing beats staying at a hotel with nobody around.

One of the greatest things (besides no one to hog the covers or wake me up in the morning) is to watch TV.  Remember that we are, for the most part, a TV-free family (we can get PBS on one of our TVs so we’re not total wackos).  There are so many amazing shows out there!  I know you all know this because I read your blogs talking about Lost and Glee and that sort of thing.  But nobody ever told me about the wreck that is 16 and Pregnant or Celebrity Rehab. I love people with messed up lives; they make me feel so successful and mentally stable.

Hey, did you know the Olympics are going on right now?  I just saw them on TV. Who knew?  Just kidding, I did know they were going on, but it’s amazing how little it matters if you haven’t seen a single minute of any events.

I still don’t really care that much about the Olympics (it is sports after all),  but if there’s a life in a downward spiral, I’ll be watching as much as I can.

  1. I can totally relate… we got cable last summer after not having it for 12 years and let me tell you, I am loving all the trash TV. Who knew there was such a world of dysfunction out there for our entertainment? So sad, but so true. Enjoy your time alone 🙂

  2. if you ever need to sneak away and watch tv, i'm your girl. you obviously haven't seen brent's recent purchase! 58 inches of pure bliss! (insert sex joke here!) but seriously, you need to watch glee. such a funny show!

  3. We got rid of cable about 6 months ago and are relying on digital antenna TV. All I can say is that TiVo has saved me! At least I can record the few decent shows that come on once or twice a week. I have to have my Star Trek! That's all I'm saying.

P.S. Wish I were in UT myself because that would mean we were adopting our baby. Still waiting to hear…

  4. So I was completely contaminating your children when I was letting them watch Special Agent Oso on my Iphone…eek! Sorry!

We didn't have cable (which pretty much means no TV) until a couple of years ago. And there is a HUGE part of me that wants to get rid of it again.

And then there is a huge part of me that loves the magic of DVR. I am so ruined! 😛

  5. Enjoy Utah!

We haven't had TV – any, no channels, can watch videos – nothing current, no newspapers or radio other than NPR! – for 3 years. When we go to a restaurant where there is TV he cocks his head and is hypnotized.
    Relate – Enjoy!

  6. So fun to meet you! You did a great job with us during the show…(And I'm so glad that the "gold" standard for us to beat is Celebrity Rehab. Phew! I'm 99% sure the show is a skosh better than that. (Just kidding) Have a great trip home and thanks for coming on the show.

  7. I've been reading you for a while, thanks for the entertainment!

Just had to jump in to tell this: I watched an episode of "16 and Pregnant" the other day on Hulu, and literally wanted to reach into the computer screen and slap both the "mommy" and "daddy" upside their collective heads. Yes, I know they are teens, but they were idiots. The girl was literally afraid to do anything to her baby, like hold him when he spit up, and the boy? Beyond immature and selfish. Ugh. Decided then I coudn't watch that show again! I was sick for that poor baby. The end.

Hope you enjoyed UT, and our TV's! 🙂

  8. True, there are so many good shows out there, especially like the one I just found yesterday called American Pickers, which is about guys who travel the country finding cool stuff that people have considered junk. Too bad you're back where there is no TV.
