A tale of two unrelated things

This is pretty hard to believe but I don’t have an iphone.  This is especially weird since we are a Mac-only household.  We thoroughly look down on PC users and wonder what is wrong with those people.  My husband waited in line all night when the iphone first came out almost three years ago, so I can claim technological coolness via him, I think.

Honestly an iphone seems like way too much phone for me.  But since everyone these days is practically making out with theirs, I guess I’ll be getting one (it makes me feel like such a follower.  Wail.) But not until June when the new Apple updates come out because the phone part of the iphone seem to . . . what’s the word?  Suck.  Yes, that’s it.  And call me old-fashioned but I like to use my phone for talking.  I like to talk on the phone a lot.

In other not related news it’s SXSW next week. (That’s the South by Southwest festival.)  It’s like a music festival, a film festival and a cool-computery-stuff festival all in one and it’s here in Austin.  It’s lots of fun especially since it’s really frowned upon around here to look like you’re trying too hard.  You don’t get a lot of the poseur-type attitude that you get in New York or even at Sundance.  I was skimming over the SXSW schedule (Mister goes to a lot of the stuff for work, and I thought I might ride his coattails to a few events) and there is actually a class called (I’m not even kidding) “How to Not be a Douchebag at SXSW”.

The bad news about SXSW is that it’s during our kids’ Spring Break and since we have too many kids and not enough money, we usually stay in town.  We try to do a few fun things with the kiddles and that means going downtown.  It is PACKED.  No parking anywhere.  Kind of a drag, but I like my kids to see the strung-out musicians who are still living out of their cars at my age.  Hopefully it will impress upon them the importance of pursuing a dreary college education and becoming a dentist.

Every year when you mention SXSW I kick myself for never going when we lived there. I just took for granted that there would always be a next year.

    Have a blast!

  2. I am so not interested in the iPhone. I am a texter. And texting is really hard with the iPhone.

Plus I hate that AT&T has a monopoly. Goes against everything I stand for.

Strung out musicians that live out of their car is something I can get on board with though.

  3. I think next year we are going to fly my mom in for the week and DH and I are going to get passes to the full thing instead of going on a vacation.

He keeps drooling over all of the stuff there is that he wants to do and I have to admit it looks pretty great.

  4. I had the opportunity of getting an iPhone twice since they came out, and passed it up. I just didn't think it seemed that great. But now that I have one, I could never, ever go back to a regular phone. It is almost as life changing as DVR. Trust me, you will love it.

But you're right, the current phone part of the iPhone does suck. I can't wait to see what the new one is like.
