I Need Some Music Suggestions

I am completely and thoroughly sick of my workout music. So I am imploring you for some new tune ideas. I pretty much like every genre of music (some more than others, of course. I have everything from rap to bellydance music). My only real issue is that I don’t want recommendations for any top 40 stuff. I’m looking for music I haven’t heard before that has a great beat.

Be a pal and help me out.

  1. Just saw a FANTASTIC new up-and-coming band called Milo Greene–they opened for The Civil Wars. They have 2 songs out on iTunes right now and a full-length album due out July 17. Maybe not traditional workout music, but I love their sound.

For stuff with a stronger beat, I do love B-52s and Oingo Boingo!

  2. what about any of the Irish River Dance? Don’t know if you have heard it or know anything about it, but you could look it up, hear some of their stuff… listen to a bunch, it’s really cool and amazing! It might be something new and inspiring. 🙂

  3. Mary mary – shackles on my feet
I don’t know if this song is top 40 yet but i know other songs from this group is – Some Nights by FUN
You like Indigo Girls? I can give you plenty of great songs from them!
I pretty much listen to oldies (but goodies) when I run, plus I do tend to buy from the top 40 list so I probably won’t be much help.

  4. I don’t even know what’s in the Top 40 or that there was such a list . . . so maybe this group is on there. They’re a little daunting at first, but their beats are so amazing that they’re really great for working out.

    Dubstep.

  5. These are some of our recent iTunes downloads that you might like for workouts. Some of them might have made a dreaded appearance on the Top 40 charts and for that I apologize. It’s mostly alternative/rock stuff — nothing cheesy!
Sweet Sour by Band of Skulls
    Drive By by Train
Called Out in the Dark by Snow Patrol
Seven Devils by Florence and the Machine
    Too Close by Alex Clare
Everybody Talks by The Neon Trees
    It’s Time by Imagine Dragons

I also like working out to Muse and The Offspring

  6. So…my little brother is in a band that is doing well. They have an album out that you can find on spotify or itunes. They are called “Fat Tree” and have some great songs and are a bit funky. My brother Sam is the lead singer in many of the songs as well as bass guitarist and wrote many of their songs. Give ’em a listen!!

  7. I am big fan of remixes for working out so try these. They are also on iTunes and Spotify.

  8. I work out to a lot of mashups – which by some strange law loophole are free to download. My favorite sites are bootiemashup.com and mashuptown.com. I’ve been using these sites for years with zero problems, ps. Have fun!

  9. Will you share your playlist with us?? I need some new music bad!

Dog Days by Florence and the Machine
    Milkshake (radio version) by Kelis
    Alive by P.O.D.
    Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira
    Single Ladies by Beyonce
    Country Grammar by Nelly
    About Us by Brooke Hogan
    Sexyback by Justin Timberlake

  10. The Weepies. Love them!

Big Daddy is addicted to his Pandora app. That’s how he gets all his fun new music ideas. Have you tried that? It takes a band/singer than you like and gives you a whole playlist of similar-styled musicians!

  11. some of my favorites, old and new:

    1) ellie goulding- lights (easily my favorite album of 2011-2012; title track is my ringtone!)
    2) elizaveta- beatrix runs
    3) ed sheeran- -+ (“small bump” makes me cry)
    4) a fine frenzy- one cell in the sea, bomb in a birdcage
    5) maria taylor- 11:11, lynn teeter flower, lady luck, overlook (taylor’s a true poet)
    6) ingrid michaelson- be ok, girls & boys, slow the rain
    7) jason mraz- waiting for my rocket to come (older, a la 2004, but it’s fast wit for workouts)
    8) jem – down to earth, finally woken
    9) one republic- waking up
    10) madonna- everything, but MDNA is pretty reliably good for an injection of get-up-and-go!
    11) pink martini- sympathique (ancient, but (french) language dancing on the tips of its toes)
    12) sara bareilles- little voice, kaleidoscope heart (vocal, musical, & lyrical talent abounds!)
    13) ivy- long distance (more mellifluous french mystique coupled w/exotic, electronic beats)

i hope this list- the lucky thirteen!- brings you hours of listening pleasure and good workout pains. i am a newly-minted, twenty-something serial reader who drops by for my daily laugh and injection of creativity and inspiration. keep it comin’, hildie! thanks for sharing yourself and your family with the world.
