Two Decades of Being Married

Today is my anniversary. Or rather, my anniversary with Mister. We have been married for twenty years. That is a really long time. Although I look fifteen I was actually 21. At the time I felt rather grown up but as I look back I realize what an absolute child I was and what business did I have getting married? But I can honestly say that it was a good choice for me. I mean, we made it twenty years! As I tell my husband, “if I were going to leave you it would have been a long time ago.”  There have been some pretty rocky times along the way, but getting through them has made us even stronger.

Mister really hates being mentioned on my blog but he is a stellar guy who is the kindest, most thoughtful person I’ve ever met. There has never been a single second since we fell in love that I haven’t known that he loves me completely and is utterly devoted to me and our family. If you think about it, that’s pretty amazing. He’s also totally hilarious but is very shy about letting people see that side of him. So everyone thinks he’s very stodgy. His oddball self remains unknown. Too bad for all of you!

So happy 20th to my dearest and most beloved friend. We’re celebrating by installing a new disposal. (Actually my mom watched the kids while we went downtown for a couple of days and ate at all the restaurants we’ve had our eye on.) But we came home to a busted disposal so that’s going to be our fun gift to each other. What can I say? Money is tight this year.

  1. And remind Darren it was ME who told him to just hurry up and propose already!!! And he did, that night! In our apartment. And you woke me up screaming about it. 🙂

  2. In that picture Mister looks happily dazed. He probably WAS!

And you were so avant guarde to want a simple duponi silk dress and ivy wreath during that age of mega-glittery jewels and weird lace forehead bands.
I must mention your comment to me the night before this anniversary about the night before your actual wedding: “Remember 20 years ago tonight, Mom? You were still sewing on my wedding dress.” Ah, yes! How well I remember! But I did get it finished by 12:06 a.m., a full 8 hours before the wedding itself.

Your marriage and family have been an amazing and wonderful example to anyone. You guys are GREAT!!

  3. Happy Anniversary!!! In our day and age, its nothing short of amazing. Nice work to the both of you!

  4. I am late with the congratulations, but 20 years these days is always something to celebrate. By the way, I love the dress, particularly the waistline.
