Yes, I am a BFL

Short for Big Fat Liar.  Why? Because at the crack of dawn (before that actually) Mister was leaving for work and said to me, “can you hang up my clothes that are in the dryer?  Don’t forget!” Because the children are out of school today (three day vacation, heaven only knows why), I was fast asleep.  So I mumbled “uh-huh” then promptly forgot all about it.

Actually I did remember later that morning when they dryer buzzer kept beeping.  The clothes were still damp so I set it for another 40 minutes, THEN I completely forgot all about the clothes.

Until this evening when we were out to dinner with his parents and he asked me if I remembered to hang up his clothes. And I said,

“Of course”.  Meaning, “of course I will as soon as we got home.”

You know how this ends, don’t you?  I forgot again.  And now it’s 11:04 p.m. and I’ve set the dryer on hot because now everything is a wrinkled mess and they’re mostly Tommy Bahama silk shirts and I’m praying that

1) they aren’t ruined by being on the high setting for a little while.

2) Mister stays in his man-cave long enough that the wrinkles come out and they’re all hung up.

I’m a horrid wife sometimes.

UPDATE:  I got totally busted about three minutes before I had hung everything up. He just laughed and called me a total liar. Already knew that.

  1. Jennie, Hi! So nice to meet you! Yes…I did go to London with Darren. Please tell him hello from me (and I’d love to hear if he has any contact with any of the Londoners from those days…) As you can see from the post you commented on, I’ve been thinking of those days a lot lately, since it’s been 20 years (gasp!).

What a small world. Thanks for saying hi. Love your blog and your kids’ names are fantastic!

  2. Oh, we all have those days. I’m sure there have been a million times already in our marriage that I was supposed to do something and I forgot. speaking of which, I need to callto change our insurance. forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

  3. I’m really glad I’m not the only one. And I always remember the thing I was supposed to do in the middle of the night and wake up in a panic.

  4. Jennie, I do this ALL the time. Except instead of using the hot cycle I just put a wet rag into the dryer with the clothes and dry for another 15 minutes or so. It works great! Sometimes I’ve used the wet rag several times before I finally remember to pull out the clothes. Anything to avoid using an iron!

  5. The spelling “L-o-r-i-e is most unusual. I keep wondering if I am sending you messages in my sleep. Who is this fabulously named woman?

Yes, the wet washcloth trick works best, and I hope by now your silk shirts did not destruct on high heat. Don’t keep us in suspense!

  6. Well what is this? You a bad wife, never. I think that we are allowed slip ups, I mean it is not like you are just sitting around all day waiting for the dryer cycle to end. I happen to know that you are a very busy woman, with kids and a house to run too, plus tack on the fact that you have your in laws in town you are totally forgive, even if all the wrinkles don’t come out.
