Spring break-my-spirit

It’s Spring Break right now and we, along with everyone else we know, are having a staycation this year. Mister is nearing the deadline of his huge project at work which means no fun for a couple more weeks.

So now I have a houseful of children and I’m wondering what to do with them. I tried ignoring them all on Saturday and that didn’t go too well. I managed to stay in bed til noon, though. It’s so lovely to be able to shout into the kitchen, “get the babies some cereal!” And somebody does. I don’t have to tell you, though, that I paid a price. When I finally sauntered out of my room I discovered that the whole house had been trashed. Did they eat ceral off the floor? Because it sure looked like it. Haven’t these kids learned anything? I’ve been telling them for 8-10 years to put their bowls in the sink when they’re done, but apparently it doesn’t take 21 days to make it a habit–more like 21 years! Sometimes I wish I were one of those crazy OCD mothers whose children have been trained to never leave a mess anywhere or their mother will FLIP OUT. But I imagine those kids will grow up needing therapy. Unlike mine who I’m sure will be happy and well-adjusted in every way.

I have some free passes to the weird reptile zoo on the way to San Antonio. I don’t recall exactly where it is, but I remember passing it. Which means I couldn’t find it again if I tried. Do I really want to take everyone down there? Hmm, not really. I also have passes to the Austin Zoo. It’s a very old-fashioned zoo; dirt paths and animals in chain-link cages. None of that fancy stuff where the animal habitats are so big that the animals are nowhere to be found. The weather is supposed to be in the low 80s all week so maybe the zoo would be a good idea. But then again, it’s 45 minutes away. And I don’t really like animals. Or being outside.

Maybe I’ll just schedule a few playdates instead. That sounds good. Or maybe I’ll just rent a new movie from Blockbuster. That should make for a great Spring Break, don’t you think?

  1. I feel your pain. This is actually the first spring break we have NOT had a “staycation”. But alas, this year, I am busy, busy, busy prepping for a SoCal trip. So excited.
    Good luck!
ps. Maybe you could catch “Race to Witch Mountain”! (But first be sure to watch the original. Remember those d*** scary dogs?!)The Winnebago is a CLASSSIC… Not sure how “The Rock” will fit into the old man’s part…Let me know. hee. hee.

  2. Hahaha!! Spring break! How fun! I’m still learning my way around her myself and I don’t have kids yet so I have NO idea where the fun kids places are!

That’s so awesome that you live in Austin! I haven’t met any other LDS bloggers from Austin.. really, you’re my first one!! As for waxing, I go to the Waxing Studio off South Lamar, it’s was nice! A little pricey, but worth it!!

  3. I went to Ireland on my spring break last year, and this year, I am….going to the Science Museum?

Don’t know—but I AM sleeping in every day!

  4. Have you considered renting and entire season of the Brady Bunch or Land of the Lost? That’s what we’ve done.

  5. Every day is spring break when all you have is toddlers. it sucks. Actually, I just realized that Daphne will have spring break from preschool soon. So I guess it could get worse and will in mid April. Dang.

  6. How about some UNO?

Amen to your second paragraph! You definitely cannot sleep in without paying for it.

  7. just a little piece of advice… schedule the playdates at their friends’ house! 😉
