Ran so far away

I pretty much think my treadmill is a waste of time.  It’s great that I have a computer hooked up to it so I can blog and watch movies.  But the fact is, it’s barely exercise.  It’s way too easy to be a wimp on the treadmill.

I’ve been riding my bike off and on for the last couple of weeks, but I have a crazy, somewhat rational fear of being run over by a teenage girl who is texting while she drives (or a mom who is trying to toss animal crackers into the back seat, or other such scenarios).  I just can’t get over it, so my bike riding is limited to small neighborhood roads.

You guys, I don’t want to be in a triathlon. I think we’ve already had this discussion. Don’t suggest swimming or running to me because there are certain things in a person’s life that are just not going to happen.

I had completely forgotten about my favorite form of exercise–videos.  How could I have forgotten about these?  I love them! I used to have quite a collection but who knows where they are now. I’m on day two of having my butt kicked by Jillian Michaels.  I’d estimate that nearly every muscle in my body is hurting today.    Hurts so good, though, right?

And to celebrate my two-day milestone I ate two donuts for breakfast.

Because I don’t want to look too good.

  1. Love your last comment. It is important not to look too good, I believe as well. Good going on the donuts!

  2. I was hooked on abs of steel for a while! You just can't beat that 80's funk music and those outfits! I have the VHS if you wanna borrow it. 🙂

  3. i just ordered the p90x dvds. i can't wait to try them out. hopefully they won't just sit here and collect dust! i will let you know if they are any good.

  4. I am addicted to yoga, and falling in love* with my yogi! She is the only person in my life who only has nice things to say, is always impressed with my efforts, and expects nothing in return!

    *in theory

  5. I like work out videos too. I have a couple of yoga ones, and Kelly got P90X, which kicks my butt on a regular basis. YOW!

  6. I told my mom I was going to do my yoga video every night at 8:15 pm to relaaaaaaaaax. That was while I was still in my unrealistic expectation of summer mode. Forgot I had 7 children at home who are in summer is the time we get to stay up later mode.

  7. I'm impressed that you're doing something to exercise, Jennie. It's often hard to enjoy it, but when we actually do it, we can feel like we're making a effort to take good care of our bodies. I get kind of worried when I'm biking too, btw.

  8. I feel really good about the part where you are rewarded for doing all the hard work, and the aching muscles.

I have also heard great things about p90x and James has them so maybe I will join you on the quest to find an entertaining way to get a bit fit. Oh and just so you know who is a blog stalker I am now round rock that will be popping into your site multiple times a day.

  9. If you gals REALLY want to get inspired, try to find (probably you will have to reserve it) the book YOUNGER NEXT YEAR FOR WOMEN. I read the "men" one and it totally changed my view of exercise — like having a regular job and going to work. suck it up and feel wonderful!. I've switched from 30 minutes of aerobics per day (I dance to disco music while I clean my house) to 45 minutes a day, and have lost 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks. That's a HUGE amount for a 66 year old girl.

Unfortunately, I then went on vacation to Ben and Nicki's and ate it all back on.
